It’s been a little bit since I have posted and if I’m being completely honest with you, it’s because I lost my motivation and drive. Something I have had to learn over the last 2 years that I really only grasped within the last month or so, is that life is not a steady climb up…it’s a freaking roller coaster. You get to where you want to be, you’re killing it in the gym, your job and relationships are perfect, you’re happy, and then all of the sudden everything falls apart at once. Life is never going to be a perfect progression of your successes, but there are a few lil life hacks I was doing when I was the happiest and achieving the most that I want to start doing again!
Life Tip #1: Get on a schedule
It’s summer, so for all the college/high school kids out there, it is soooo easy to not have a routine. It’s nice at first not having to worry about much, but then you start sleeping in until noon everyday and you feel like half the day is already gone so you just chill watching Netflix or napping by the pool. Don’t get me wrong–these kind of summer days are the best rest days and should be taken, but within moderation. When you sleep in everyday for a while your circadian rhythm gets thrown off which messes with your eating patterns, daily habits, and your mood.
Plan your day the night before–schedule an hour for the gym, maybe you want to clean your room or hangout with friends. Get a few things done so that you feel accomplished, and your happy and ready to relax by the end of the day!
Life Tip #2: Meditate
There were a few months this year when I woke up with a smile on my face every morning ready to start the day. During those months I had a pretty strict morning routine–wakeup early, read a short devotion (I use Joyce Meyer’s daily devos), meditate for 5-10 min, and clean before eating breakfast and heading to the gym. Taking 5-10 minutes to clear your mind and concentrate on your goals first thing in the morning before anything has affected your mood seriously changes the game. Before you even pick up your phone, find a quiet place where you can decide the type of person you want to be that day. ‘The energy you put out is the energy others absorb!’
Life Tip #3: Plan your workouts…AND DO THEM!
Is it just me or does summer remind you of Chik-fil-a, concerts, and a lot of ice cream??? Hanging out with friends means you will probably go out to eat more than you do the rest of the year which is OKAY. Live your life, eat more chicken 😉 But make sure you’re getting that sweat in so you feel good from the inside out and still get in those balanced meals so your body has the nutrients and energy it needs to keep up with you!
I recommend planning your workouts for the week every Sunday so they are ready to go for Monday. Try to plan at least 4 and make yourself go to all of them! They are already in your calendar so no excuses when Sean asks you to go to the mall during your workout time. HIIT one day, strength training the next, rest day, pilates, kickboxing–switch it up b/c summer is the perfect time to try new workouts!
Life Tip #4 (and probably the most important): Stay away from toxic people/relationships
You know those people that give you anxiety (maybe you call them butterflies), but you can feel when a relationship isn’t making you happy or doesn’t feel right. This can be extremely difficult, especially if you have known this person for a long time. If you are spending all of your time and energy trying to fix a friendship or relationship that isn’t going anywhere, just stop. You are only holding yourself back, and that is energy you could be putting into your dreams, goals, and people who will give you the same effort right back. You are so unique and there are people out there for you! Don’t waste anymore time, love yourself and your people will find you.
Spread smiles,
Rach
You are truly amazing!
